You are very welcome to join the Town Mayor, Councillor Gareth Williams, Bingham Town Councillors, and members of the Royal British Legion (Bingham Branch) for a short event outside the Old Court House, Church Street, Bingham, to fly the Red Ensign and mark Merchant Navy Day, in recognition of the contribution that our merchant ships and crews have given our country in two world wars and the years following.
Bin collections across Rushcliffe will start from 6am on Wednesday August 10, Thursday August 11 and Friday August 12, instead of their usual 7am start times to reduce Rushcliffe Borough Council’s waste team’s exposure to the forecast extreme weather conditions.
Residents in the Borough should therefore ensure their bins scheduled for collection on either day are placed on the edge of their properties before 6am on these days to ensure they are collected.
It follows an Amber weather warning for this week which is set to last over the weekend. It could see temperatures reach 34 degrees Celsius across the region.
The earlier starts will help the teams to get more bins emptied in the morning before the temperatures peak later in the day and is in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advice for outdoor working.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Safety Cllr Rob Inglis said: “Our waste teams work tirelessly week in week out and their welfare is of paramount importance. With the Amber weather warning in place this week, we’re keen to minimise their time spent working outdoors at the height of the temperatures.
“We thank residents for ensuring their bin is out earlier than normal on these three days and are aware many will be unaffected by these changes having routinely placed their bin out for collection the night before.
