A Grounds Maintenance Operative role doesn’t have to be a restrictive remit for repetition, ticking off tasks from one location to the next. Imagine joining an in-house team that embraces quality of work and prides itself on the community it serves and is at the heart of a vibrant town.

At Bingham Town Council, this role is not a cut-and-leave job or a functional front; this is a role that embraces finesse, quality of workmanship, and community service and engagement. It’s your chance to apply your skills in a small team that puts its heart and soul into the people it serves.

With support from a Senior Grounds Maintenance Operative employed at Bingham for the past six years, you’ll be overseeing a one-mile radius inclusive of over 10,000 residents, five play areas, parks, allotments, a cemetery, and sports pitches.

Far from being pigeon-holed within a large team, your work will span grounds maintenance, graves and funerals, park checks, tree maintenance, allotments, flower beds, litter picking, risk assessments, health and safety checks, and Summer and Christmas Lights Switch-on events.

Interested In…?

  • A local government pension inclusive of a standout 20.2% contribution rate
  • Funded support to receive training and attain licences and qualifications
  • Meaningful, community-focused work, embracing your passion for a job done well
  • Support from a senior colleague but also empowerment to learn and work alone
  •  A close-knit family-like team within a progressive working environment
  • 22 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays on top and a three-day Christmas break

Combine meaningful community engagement with a friendly, collaborative working environment. We’re a close-knit team of seven, from Clerk to Cleaner, bonded by characters and personalities. Far from just being a number, you’ll be treated and respected as an individual.

At Bingham, you’ll have fully funded support for training across a huge range of skills and courses. And in a growing town with 1,000+ new houses, a new leisure centre, this will be an opportunity to grow with the community. There will be more projects and even more working variety to come.

The core working hours are 7am to 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday, with a 2.30pm finish on a Friday; it’s a 39-hour working week. A driving licence is needed for use of Council-owned utility vehicles, not for your own vehicle. Overtime opportunities exist for seasonal Council events.

Whether it’s the onset of high winds or a funeral that needs arranging, plans can change quickly. You need to be adaptable and composed, working on your initiative whilst also enjoying the chance to liaise with and learn from a highly experienced senior colleague.

Do You Offer…?

  • At least three years of experience in a similar role, based outdoors
  • Vocational or in-house training – or qualification – related to Grounds Maintenance
  • A valid UK driving licence
  • Basic, proficient handwriting skills – for signing off paperwork in writing
