Local Government Re-Organisation – Survey now open

In December 2024, Central Government announced plans for the biggest reorganisation of local government in England in over 50 years which will change the structure and responsibilities of local councils.

In Nottinghamshire local services are currently delivered under what is known as a ‘two-tier’ council structure. LGR means we will move to a single tier system of unitary councils where just one council will deliver all the services you receive.

In Nottingham and Nottinghamshire there are nine existing local authorities. Under LGR, all nine would be abolished, to create new unitary councils with a higher population of residents.

It is being proposed that two new unitary councils should be created to replace the current nine.

Two core options are being proposed:

  • A new unitary authority combining Nottingham, Broxtowe, and Gedling, with a second new unitary authority for the rest of Nottinghamshire. This is known as option 1B.
  • A new unitary authority combining Nottingham, Broxtowe, and Rushcliffe, with a second new unitary authority for the rest of Nottinghamshire. This is known as option 1E.

Councils are now rolling out an engagement process with residents and stakeholders until Sunday September 14 to gather public feedback on what matters most to local people and organisations and help shape the new Unitary authorities’ priorities.

Please see the project’s website to complete the survey online. Paper surveys will also be available at the following locations across the Borough from Thursday 07 August:

    • East Leake Parish Council, 5 Main Street, East Leake, LE12 6PF
    • Rushcliffe Arena, Rugby Road, West Bridgford NG2 7YG
    • West Bridgford Library, Bridgford Road, West Bridgford, NG2 6AP
    • Grange Hall, Vicarage Lane, Radcliffe on Trent, NG12 2FB

  • Cotgrave Library, Cotgrave Hub, Rivermead, Cotgrave NG12 3UQ
